A speech-enabled mobile application
A design for a mobile app, optimized for voice and for salespeople on the go. I've worked on multiple voice-enabled mobile apps that have deployed; this one didn't deploy but was fun because we were able to start from scratch and work out the concept.
The challenge
Design a voice-enabled mobile application that integrates with a popular CRM platform.
User research
Our first step was to conduct a series of interviews with internal salespeople. In the first interview, we asked them to take us through their day and primary tasks and responsibilities. In the second, we asked them to show and tell us how their CRM software fits into their day.
Based on these interviews, we defined 3 user personas to focus on.
Use Cases
Next, we created a series of use cases to describe where and how our application might be used, and to work through the screen + voice interactions.
Natural language understanding grammars
This is the start of what would become a much more granular, refined specification if it were being prepared for production. The exercise reinforced for us how valuable we felt voice could be to this (very complex) application.
Also - it prompted a very cool idea around using context to resolve or prioritize selection options for ambiguities or anaphora.
My roles and note
The team here was myself and one other designer. We both did the interviews and personas, I did the use cases, wires, and grammar definition, and he came up with a cool interaction for the mic (sort of captured above) and did visual design mockups (not included here).
